The MySQL root password allows the root user to have full access to the MySQL database. You must have (Linux) root or (Windows) Administrator access to the Cloud Server to reset the MySQL root password.<\/p>\n
Note:\u00a0The Cloud Server (Linux) root or (Windows) Administrator account password is not the same as the MySQL password. The Cloud Server password allows access to the server. The MySQL root password allows access only to the MySQL database.<\/p>\n
Use the following steps to reset a MySQL root password by using the command line interface.<\/p>\n
(Ubuntu and Debian) Run the following command:<\/p>\n
sudo \/etc\/init.d\/mysql stop\r\n<\/code><\/pre>\n(CentOS, Fedora, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux) Run the following command:<\/p>\n
sudo \/etc\/init.d\/mysqld stop\r\n<\/code><\/pre>\nStart MySQL without a password<\/h3>\n
Run the following command. The ampersand (&) at the end of the command is required.<\/p>\n
sudo mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables &\r\n<\/code><\/pre>\nConnect to MySQL<\/h3>\n
Run the following command:<\/p>\n
mysql -uroot\r\n<\/code><\/pre>\nSet a new MySQL root password<\/h3>\n
Run the following command:<\/p>\n
use mysql;\r\n\r\nupdate user set password=PASSWORD(\"mynewpassword\") where User='root';\r\n\r\nflush privileges;\r\n\r\nquit\r\n<\/code><\/pre>\nStop and start the MySQL service<\/h3>\n
